Belonging in the Catholic Church w/ Dr. Scott Sollom - The Bible Timeline Show w/ Jeff Cavins
What does it mean to belong in the Catholic Church? Perhaps, you have heard the Catholic Church referred to as a family or as a community. That sounds nice, but what does it actually mean for the identity of the Church and her members? Jeff Cavins and Dr. Scott Sollom dive into the idea of Church as relational, as family. They discuss the different ways in which it is essential that the faithful see themselves as a family in relationship with God and each other.

Biblical Evidence for the Authority of the Catholic Church w/ Jeff Cavins and Fr. Pablo Gadenz
Просмотров 4,8 тыс.Месяц назад
Does the Catholic Church have any actual authority, and where does this authority come from? The Church has existed for over two millennia and encompasses over a billion members worldwide. However, does this longevity and size imply that God founded it and granted it divine authority? Scripture scholar Fr. Pablo Gadenz joins Jeff Cavins on The Bible Timeline Show to examine the biblical evidenc...

Hello Father Mike, I'm wondering how long it took for these craftsmen and all the gifted people to "build" the Tabernacle and make all the items necessary to worship in it? I also need some prayers. I have been told by the utility company that they need to remove trees on my property because they are endangering our power lines. I want to have the trees cut up and split into firewood, then make the firewood available as a fundraiser for my parish and help those who need firewood for heat this winter. My health does not allow me to burn this wood myself. It's so hard when I'm trying to do something good for others.

An important message about trusting God while living and hoping for the best ending of our lives. *The Widow with the oil and two sons had faith but she didn't think that it could be a miracle. She didn't push it and thus, didn't get vessels or pots for oil. If she had more faith and trust, it could have ended up like the wine creation and “5 loaves and 2 fishes” from Jesus’ time. We must consider that if we put our trust in God and follow whatever God says, our end will be good. We must give our 100% just like how God gives His 100% for us. God gave His 100% through Elisha but the lady didn't give her 100% *The anxiety and the sorrow of the childless couple does make us think about all the people in our lives that we lost or are sick. We often fear the moment we will lose them. Jesus showed us that death is not the end. We have an eternity so we must accept the reality and pray for those departed. We all will be united in Heaven through Jesus. *Psalm 127 is among my favorites because it tells us that no matter how hard we work and how many nights we don't sleep, if God is not with us, our efforts are useless. We need God's blessings and guidance for our work to be successful. Thus, God gives His beloved rest. As He gave rest to King Solomon for David's sake and also because of the task of building up the temple. Thank you for your amazing commentary summarizing and analyzing everything, Fr. Mike and Team Ascension! God bless you and the fellow listeners

An excellent reminder of why we shouldn't worship God and Jesus as we like but we must worship and pray as God and Jesus wants us to do it. *After victory or an achievement we must never do things in arrogance or in a hurry. We must always abide by the rules we know. Uzziah grew up in the Temple so he knew that only Levites can burn incense but still he got proud and thought of doing it anyway but God showed him that he was wrong. * Psalm 72- A prayer for deliverance for the king seems like a great prayer for self as well as for praying for the people in authority as we want God to guide our leaders so that through their leadership, we can live well and also live as per God's Will. Thank you, Fr. Mike and Team Ascension. God bless you and the fellow listeners

It is an important episode that busts some translation myths and also shows the glory of God. *Amaziah followed the law of Moses - Fathers should not be put to death for children and children not put to death. Everyone should die for their own sins. *Amaziah, however, wasn't perfect as he immediately strayed away from God. Fr. Mike is right. Many times, when we go back to bad habits or negativity, it shows that we are not strong from within. Thus, we need to be not strong just from outside but from the inside through study of the scripture, discipline, prayer, a strong community, etc. * God has the power to cast down to raise (to help us to win or to lose). *Do not worry about the lost money or material things, God shall give us much more if we are faithful to Him. * Elisha received the double power / God's grace as an inheritance from Elijah after Elijah departed to Heaven. No trace of his body thus, it is indeed funny when people are looking for it, but Elijah knew that they wouldn't be able to find it. Elijah making salty water whole again shows the glory of God. * If it was not this episode, I wouldn't have known the fact that the battle near the end wasn't about old vs young but about the right way of worshiping God (bald men/elders from this situation) vs. young men from Bethel, as well as Dan, where Jeroboam had made false worship places (ruffians / young men and not young boys). I am grateful to Fr. Mike, thank you for sharing this! Thank you, Fr Mike and Team Ascension. God bless you and the fellow listeners

12:09 Father in heaven, we thank you and give you praise. We thankyou so much for the gift of your word. We thank you for the gift of peace and deliverance, Lord God, because you do, you deliver us from our enemies. Now, even when we're in distress, even when it seems like the world is crashing around us, even when it seems like there are obstacles, and truly there are obstacles in our lives. You make us lie down and sleep. Lord God, when we can't sleep, when we cannot find rest, when our minds are so busy, are so scattered and we feel so stretched, so thin, then we can realize that we need to rely upon your grace and your mercy. God, when we pray, "deliver me from this thorn, deliver me from this trial", you speak to us, the words you spoke to St. Paul, "my grace is sufficient for you". Power's made perfect in weakness. And so, we acknowledge our weakness so we can accept your power. And, we know it's true. Your grace is sufficient for every one of our days, for every one of our moments. And, so we give you praise in Jesus' name we pray. Amen. †

A great reminder that God keeps His promises even if we are unfaithful at times. *God kept His promise to David and thus, the evil Queen couldn't kill everyone from David's Royal family. Thus, even if the situation and people seem to be against you, if God wants justice to happen, it will happen. *There are bad kings in the North yet God sent prophets to remind them to repent. So, it is never too late to turn to God. We always get a second chance. * The kings of the South were good and bad so ups and downs but still for David's sake, God continued to help the kings of the South to be good. Thank you so much Fr Mike and Team Ascension. God bless you and the fellow listeners

Chapter 2 (Hosea), God says “I will make the valley of Achor a door of hope, so the place that is a place of shame, I’m going to make it a place of victory. I make it into a place where you know how deeply & how you are profoundly you are loved.” This message of God reminds me of the videos of Baptist vs Catholic debates in the Philippines. One of the questions of Baptist is that “why do Catholicism came from Rome? Because based on the history of Rome, Italy…it is a place murderers, killings, and death of Christians?” If God can make the ‘valley of Achor’ a place of shame into a place of hope & loved by God, then God has the same power to convert Rome into a holy place.

Jesus and Judas represent the scapegoat system of Judaism. One goat is sacrificed, and the other is sent off into the wilderness where it eventually falls off a cliff and dies. The second goat carries the sins of the people away. IMO, that’s Judas, since he got the blame for the sin (killing the Messiah). Just an idea. It does make Judas sound like a good guy though, or at the very least, just another instrument used by God.

A great reminder to be faithful and also do the right thing instead of just being an observer while something wrong is happening. *Neboth the Jazreelite was faithful to his family and the land given thanks to Abraham and God. Ahab acted Iike a child when not getting what he wanted so Jezebel conspired against Neboth. The elders and nobles who consented with Jezebel and those who knew that this was bad but didn't do anything were as part of the sin as much as Jezebel. * We must lead by example of our actions and life. Ahab and Jehoram didn't follow God and thus, led people away from God and made them vulnerable. *Jehoshaphat did well but was not perfect, his son Jehoram did terribly and followed the example of the wrong man (Ahab, his father-in-law). *Be not unequally yoked! All of these men were led astray by the wives that didn't follow God. Thus, we must be mindful of whom we marry and we must not follow any tradition without thinking. Thank you, Fr Mike and Team Ascension. God bless you and the fellow listeners

This is a great reminder not to be disheartened when the best days are behind us. We have eternity and God. *Elijah was afraid and also thought that the purpose of his life was fulfilled, but God had a final task for him. It was to anoint new kings and also a new prophet- Elisha. Our life might seem meaningless, but God might have something more for us. *The last time we had communion (the Eucharist) is the food for our salvation. Viaticm is indeed special for those who have lost hope in life, such as elderly or sick. Many oftentimes get the motivation, and their body helps them to recover. Elijah also received this viaticm directly from God. God gave him motivation. We also receive weekly motivation through the Mass and the Eucharist. *Elisha, killing off his oxen used for farming, shows his dedication towards God and shows that his future belongs to God's service. We must also close unwanted and bad doors behind us to go after the opportunities given by God. *Ahab not killing the Syrian king that killed the people of God becomes a form of disobedience. Thus, we must also see what actions are like our disobedience towards God. *Great tips by Fr. Mike. 1st Kings shows us the tale of the kings of the North while 2nd Chronicles tells us about the good kings of the South. Thank you, Fr Mike and Team Ascension. God bless you and the fellow listeners
